Fall Classic Game 7 Captures 51 Million Audience Members Across the US, Canada and Japan Markets.

The exciting 11-inning contest where the Los Angeles Dodgers overcome the Blue Jays 5-4 attracted a aggregate 51 million viewers in the US, Canada, and Japanese territories. MLB reported this marks the highest-rated World Series Game 7 since the 1991 edition contest featuring the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Viewership Details

Last Saturday’s epic game averaged over 27 million audience members on Fox channels, its Spanish-language channel and Fox’s digital services. Per Nielsen, it was the second most-watched program of the week.

It also is the top-rated Fall Classic game after the 2017 Game 7 between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Astros, which averaged 29.07M. This represents a 16% improvement over the last finale between the Nationals and Astros, which drew 23.19M.

In the Nielsen ratings, Game 6 ranked 4th, the fourth game was seventh, Game 5 came in 8th, and the third game landed in 13th place.

Global Audience Figures

In Canada, the climactic game recorded 11.6M watchers on the Sportsnet network and the French-language TVA Sports. This was the highest-rated English-language broadcast in the country after the 2010 edition Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the deciding game began at 9 PM in the local time zone, it attracted 12 million viewers. This followed last Friday’s Game 6 – in which Fall Classic Most Valuable Player Yamamoto allowed a single run in six frames – recorded over 13 million viewers, making it the most-watched World Series matchup on a single network in the country.

Overall Averages and Patterns

The full seven-game World Series recorded 15.71 million audience members on the Fox network, a 2% increase from the previous year’s Dodgers-Yankees matchup. This represents the first time after 2015 and 2016 that the World Series has seen viewership increases for two straight years.

Including the Game 1 broadcast on the Univision network, the complete US viewership reached 16.1 million. The total Fall Classic average in the Japanese market was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in the Canadian market.

The complete MLB Postseason on Fox, FS1 and FS2 drew over 8 million watchers, an eight percent rise compared to the previous year and the network’s best playoff performance after the 2017 season.

MLB announced that the Fall Classic was broadcast in 203 nations and regions by 44 broadcasting partners in 16 various tongues.
