🔗 Share this article Norris Edges Out Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice The British driver has outperformed his teammate at each of the previous five grands prix. The McLaren driver just pipped team-mate and title rival Oscar Piastri for the fastest time in the final moments of practice at the Brazilian Grand Prix. The British racer, who seized the points lead from his teammate by a single point after winning in Mexico City recently, beat the Australian by 0.023 seconds. Earlier in the session, Piastri had been the leading McLaren during the running before sprint qualifying due at the evening session. Max Verstappen, the other racer in the championship fight, trailing 36 points Norris, was classified in P17 as his team opted for a unique setup. Verstappen's team-mate Yuki Tsunoda was the sole competitor to have an incident, albeit lightly, when he lost control at corner four soon after starting. The Japanese lost control over the exit kerbs before rotating through the gravel trap, and was lucky to get away with just a slight brush of the fence. Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also had a spin, at the very end of the session, spinning around through the quick descending corner leading to the last turn on to the pit straight. The veteran finished practice in 19th, one place behind teammate the Monegasque driver. The McLaren pair were well clear of the remaining drivers, with Nico Hulkenberg's Sauber P3, over half a second behind Piastri's pace. Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso was in fourth, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto ahead of the Mercedes of George Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
